Instagram post 2175743167477998707_4889475 Thank you all for your lovely response to my ORC reveal! I’m still pondering the working area of the Study. It’s currently outfitted with an antique clawfoot drafting desk (powder coated in jade green by a previous owner). Since it doesn’t offer much in the way of storage space, I’m looking for a small cabinet to tuck in the corner for prints and files. I’ll also be adding shelves above the desk. And when the perfect armless wooden chair appears, this gorgeous chrome Italian number is moving over to MY work space because we belong together (sorry Adam). 🖤

Instagram post 2174587253022769472_4889475 ORC: The End

Well, almost! I’ll be installing lighting, hanging the art, adding storage, and continuing to edit and style. But look! Our unloved spare room is a Study! It has been a pleasure to design this room with and for my husband, and it would not have come together without his painting and parenting! Though this is intended to be Adam’s quiet space for research and writing, he may not get any peace and quiet until I redesign our family Library as well- our three-year-old asked if he could read in here too. I suppose I should start planning for the Spring ORC... Thanks to @oneroomchallenge and @betterhomesandgardens for motivating this and so many more incredible transformations. Cheers to all the participants enjoying their new spaces. This week I’ll share more details from the Study in stories- thank you for following along!

Instagram post 2169153174181685021_4889475 ORC Week 5... and a half... The penultimate update, in which the author regretfully informs her readers that she will miss her publishing deadline. Sigh. The Study is so close, but missing some key components. While I love to design with antiques, it’s not always possible to source and deliver on a timeline. I hesitated on the perfect desk and it was snatched up by a more motivated buyer. I’m also seeing delays from international or apparently indifferent vendors. So it goes! I will always prioritize acquiring the right piece over an arbitrary deadline. Design is gradual. I’ve still truly enjoyed being a participant in the One Room Challenge this season- it’s been the spark I needed to start a transformation in this space. So though it won’t be “done,” I’ll have a fairly dramatic rough draft to share next week.

Instagram post 2165544291445893921_4889475 “Love Song”

Sweep the house clean,
hang fresh curtains
in the windows
put on a new dress
and come with me!
The elm is scattering
its little loaves
of sweet smells
from a white sky!
Who shall hear of us
in the time to come?
Let him say there was
a burst of fragrance
from black branches. - William Carlos Williams

Happy anniversary, Adam. I am loving this long walk with you- every ordinary day. 📷: @jennreppphoto
Instagram post 2164395407424315518_4889475 This wiggly, giggly girl is five months old today. She loves jumping, dancing, grabbing everything she can reach, getting attention from her big brother, and being held by her mama all.the.time. My arms are sore, my cheeks hurt from smiling, and my heart aches because these days are passing so quickly. Instagram post 2161919682637201187_4889475 ORC Week 4: Illustrations

This week I’m still impatiently waiting for paint to dry and orders to arrive... but we also made our art selections! This gallery shows a few of the very diverse styles of botanical prints we had to choose from. The Study will provide a safe storage and viewing space for the collection, but I wanted to pull as many pieces as possible out of binders and sleeves and put them on the walls. In stories I’ll discuss how we decided which prints to display, and how I’m maximizing a small budget with creative semi-custom framing.

Today I’ll also be illustrating the challenges we’ve had with the floor plan for this room!

Instagram post 2157012721751816075_4889475 ORC Chapter 3: In which the plot stalls... So I’m just hoping to distract you with a picture of a cute baby. Is it working? Last week we had a few hiccups (issues with trim and slow progress on paint) and some sniffles (both kids, of course!). I also spent a little time considering alternate furniture layouts before circling back to the original plan. This week I’ll catch you up in stories before introducing some character to the room- furniture!
